NOURISHING SHRIMP CEVICHE

,

Ceviche is a traditional Latin American dish of raw or lightly cooked seafood marinated in citrus juice—usually lime or lemon—which “cooks” the fish through a process called denaturation. The acid in the citrus changes the proteins in the seafood in a similar way that heat would, giving it a firm, opaque texture and bright, refreshing flavor.

The dish is most famously associated with Peru, where it’s considered a national treasure, though variations exist across Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, and Central America. Each region adds its own twist—some include tomatoes and avocado (as in Mexican shrimp ceviche), others use corn, sweet potato, or plantain chips as sides.

Shrimp ceviche is a modern coastal adaptation, often made with pre-cooked shrimp for safety and convenience. It’s marinated in a lively blend of lime, lemon, and orange juice, mixed with tomatoes, cilantro, onion, jalapeño, and avocado. The result is a cooling, vibrant dish rich in protein, vitamin C, and healthy fats—perfect for warm seasons or as a nourishing, light meal.

Shrimp ceviche is remarkably nutrient-dense for such a simple dish:

  • High-quality protein — essential for ovulation, egg quality, and hormone synthesis.
  • Zinc and selenium — both found abundantly in shrimp; vital for reproductive health and thyroid function.
  • Vitamin C (from citrus and tomatoes) — improves iron absorption and supports collagen and follicle development.
  • Omega-3 fats (in shrimp and avocado) — help balance inflammation and support healthy cervical mucus and implantation.
  • B vitamins (especially B12 from shrimp) — key for methylation and hormone metabolism during the preconception phase.

Because ceviche is light yet rich in micronutrients, it’s an excellent fertility-supportive meal—especially for women preparing for conception who need nutrient-dense, digestible foods that support detoxification and hormone balance without burdening digestion.

In the context of a fertility-focused diet, ceviche embodies balance: vitality, purity, and freshness. The combination of citrus, minerals, and lean protein helps the body maintain optimal metabolic health, supports thyroid and adrenal resilience, and gently stimulates circulation and detox pathways through the liver and lymphatic system—all essential for conception.

And here is how to make yours! *Keep it as organic as possible.

INGREDIENTS

  • 450 g cooked shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 60 ml frech lemon juice
  • 60 ml fresh lime juice
  • 100 ml freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 4 Roma tomatoes (or just regular), seeds removed and diced
  • 2 jalapeños, seeds and vein removed, minced
  • 113 g of apple, peeled and diced
  • 13 g of fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 2 small red onions, finely diced
  • 2 avocados, pitted and diced
  • Sea salt & black pepper

DIRECTIONS

  1. Simply mix everything in a big bowl, this ceviche recipe will give you enough for a big feast table!
  2. Enjoy it by itself, or served with roasted sweet potato for natural sweetness and beta-carotene for hormone support. Or with some cassava (yuca) or plantain chips. These pairings add complex carbohydrates, which stabilize blood sugar and support progesterone production.
